On Sunday morning we decided to take a cruise out towards Sumner to catch up with friends and we just happened to spot this bad boy as we drove through Ferrymead and we couldn’t pull in fast enough. The exterior aesthetic was clean wooden panelling, with big glass windows and a stone feature wall which upon arrival we discovered was a neat outdoor fireplace to keep the courtyard nice and cosy. New and modern interior makes this cafe/bar easy on the eye, and I would have happily had any of the decor in my own home. It’s attached to a gorgeous homewares store, Casual and Country, where I want to buy all. the. things.
For such a popular place with SO much seating, the parking was a little tight but all was forgiven when we went inside. I actually love this place. It wasn’t quite warm enough to make the most of the courtyard but it’s going to be a great place to hang out when the weather warms up. That being said, there were people outside quite happily enjoying the ambience of the fire and fresh air, I just haven’t quite acclimatised to the Christchurch winters yet.
I’ve been trying to be good with my eating recently but the temptation in the cabinet was just too much to handle, so I chose what I thought would be the lesser of the sugar evils and treated myself to a delicious Choc Nutty Granola slice. It was scrumptious, albeit quite tricky to eat, and I wouldn’t normally comment on a portion size being too big but they could have halved the size of this and I still would have been exceptionally happy! My boyfriend had the Gooey Chocolate brownie (warmed with whipped cream) and that got a big thumbs up.
The coffee. Oh, the coffee. An amazing L’affare flat white with a near perfect microfoam that gets a 4 outta 5 rating from me. It was served at an immediately drinkable temperature, which was great given we were just stopping in for a quick drink and sticky beak at this new find. I’ve found L’affare cafes can be a little hit and miss, but these guys nailed it. It isn’t my favourite bean (not quite enough kick for me) but I couldn’t fault how it was made. If I lived nearby this would totally be my local.
Ten27 is not only a cafe but is now open late Wednesday to Sunday for dinner. A sneak peak at the menu looked pretty tasty, and I’ve definitely put it on my list of places to come for dinner. The smells wafting from the kitchen for all the lunch/brunch goers were divine, and the food looked pretty good as it walked straight past my table. Next time, Kylie, next time.
