Oh Blenheim, you sure know how to impress a girl! A few weeks back I road shotgun on a road trip to Blenheim. It was my first proper time visiting, as the last time was dark and rainy so we literally couldn’t see anything. This visit however was totally on point. It was crisp and cold, the sun was shining like no tomorrow, and the vibe was chilled and calming. I spent my days testing out a few of the coffee shops (which I will also review) but I have to say, this one was an unusual stand out for me.
The cafe is a converted warehouse that is large, bright and airy with high ceilings. It was crisp and white with pops of yellow everywhere; a wonderfully feel good cafe. It had plenty of tables and chairs, with some couches, yet it seemed to be predominantly be a “grab and go” coffee shop which was a real shame because at first glance it definitely feels like a cool place to hang out. All of the tradies standing in the middle of the cafe waiting to grab their coffees kinda killed the buzz a little bit, but boy oh boy did their coffee make up for it!!
If there is one thing that I get really excited about, it’s a coffee shop that has more than one bean option. This little gem had 4! The lovely girl that served us asked us how we liked our coffee and as we both prefer a stronger, yet smooth, bean she recommended their guest blend, “Kush”. It was a pretty amazing coffee, the only thing I could fault was the milk froth was too bubbly and not microfoamy enough for me. But that aside, the coffee was delicious. A great temperature, epic smooth flavours and ever so slightly spicy.
Their food selection was kind of bakeryesque, with a selection of muffins, pastries and slices available. Unfortunately they didn’t have much in the way of Gluten Free, so we opted to just go with coffee sans breakfast. The food did look pretty good though, and it seemed to be flying out the door.
If you prefer your coffee in crockery, then you might be disappointed here. They only serve in takeaway cups which fits with the nature of the clientele, but it would have been nice to have my coffee in a bright yellow cup and saucer. In saying that however, I am not against takeaway cups so wouldn’t hesitate to go here again.
